The owners of this brick row house in Trinidad, D.C. wanted to renovate the first floor, add a new back porch/patio, and create a separate basement apartment. One specific request was to preserve a small room at the rear of the home for an art studio and home office.
Given this was an end-unit, we took advantage of the windows on the side of the house and moved the office/art studio to the middle of the first floor, creating space for a larger dining area in the rear. We designed metal and glass walls to house this space, providing sound mitigation while also allowing the natural light to spill into the adjacent hallway, where we added built-ins for additional kitchen and dining storage.
